A lot of baby boomers are modifying the extra bedrooms in their Gig Harbor homes. These are not necessarily intended for company, but instead for aging parents or children in their 20s, returning home after college. Decorating a room for children is not the same as designing for an older adult.

A removed sense of space and seclusion should be be adopted, particularly in the case of an elderly parent. Room for medical devices in the bedroom or bathroom must be thought about too.

The sale of your Gig Harbor home could be affected by a few things. The deal breaker should never be fleas, termites, or bugs. Before you even put your house on the market, hire an exterminator. Make sure all evidence of pests are gone before a would-be buyer even enters your house.

If you own pets, ensure that fleas will not be a problem by taking preventative steps. Use a fogger and give your pet's flea medication to kill remaining fleas. Make sure Fido stays outside until after your home is sold. Completing these steps now is going to save time and money in the end.

Nearly 50 percent of home repairs were done to get Gig Harbor homes ready to sell, based on information from a recent report. The majority of work, just about 61 percent of it, is being done before the property hits the market.

Most of the work consists of replacing floors, with either ceramic, hardwood, or quarry tile. Painting is a relatively economical way to touch up a space and accounts for 22 percent of work completed. Landscaping, electrical work, and other outside improvements are each at about 9 percent.

The central purpose for this work is to increase the value of a house and to make it more modern. Houses stay on the market for an extened period of time as the market slows down. To make sure their houses sell quickly, sellers will do what they can now.

Summer is now in full bloom. With heat waves stretching across much of the United States, power to run the AC has become limited. There are a lot of things you can do to cool down if your Gig Harbor home is without an AC.

To start off, hold something frozen in your hand for as long as you can. This is going to cool your body by as much as 3 degrees Fahrenheit and will last for almost an hour. Stop if it begins to hurt. Drink a lot of water, even if you aren't thirsty. All of the fluids lost from sweating have to be made up somewhere. Keep out of direct sunlight. If you do go outside, cover up with airy, loose-fitting clothes.

Turn off all heat sources such as lights or the computer. Get your hair wet by taking a cool shower or bath. Place a wet towel behind your neck, on your forehead, on the inside of your wrists and elbows, and on the backs of your knees. These points will naturally cool the rest of your body down.

If all else fails, go to the movies, mall, or other air-conditioned location. Roughing it for a couple days shouldn't be too difficult After all, people have lived for many years without AC.

Since you are settled into your Gig Harbor home it's a good chance to have a party, or even a get-together with your best friends. After moving and closing costs, you may be on a budget. Fortunately, a common motif is casual.

You can mail or hand deliver invitations, once you determine how big your gathering will be. These can span from special made invitations to ones printed out on a computer with nice paper. You should have your guests RSVP. Your home must be prepared one or two days prior to the party. Be sure toiletries in the bathroom are fully stocked and clean both the inside along with the outside of your house.

You ought to steer clear of a sit-down dinner if this is one of your first parties. Instead, go for a mixture of appetizers, making sure you have a couple of vegetarian choices. Label youself as bartender, if you plan on serving alcohol, and be sure your guests don't drink too much. When your guests get there, point out where to put coats or purses and where the food and restrooms are located. You should circulate and make sure everyone is having a great time.

Practice makes perfect and with enough practice, your Gig Harbor home could be the talk of the town.

The main addition in Gig Harbor home remodels is an increase in exterior living space. The call for patios, decks, and outdoor kitchens rose from 47 percent to 64 percent, according to the American Institute of Architects. Spas, tennis courts, and gazebos are also highly ranked.
