Close to 50 percent of home renovations were done to get Gig Harbor homes ready to sell, based on data from a new study. The majority of work, about 61 percent of it, is being done before the property goes on the market.

Replacing floors, with either hardwood, ceramic, or quarry tile make up most of the work that is done. A rather inexpensive way to touch up a room is by painting, which makes up 22 percent of work completed. Each at about 9 percent are electrical work, landscaping, or other outdoor improvements.

The number one reason for this work is to boost the value of a house and to make it more modern. As the market begins to moderate, houses stay on the market for an extened period of time. Sellers will now do all they can to be certain their house sells promptly.
