Gig Harbor real estate is seeing a new trend. Young singles, more specifically women, are among the majority of new homeowners. In fact, there was a 6 percent rise in female buyers between 2001 and 2005.

Most young singles are looking for secure neighborhoods, closeness to entertainment and nightlife, and affordability. Recent immigrants and minorities account for much more of the buying market. Some are purchasing condos to build equity so that they can purchase a bigger home down the road. Finally, retirees and empty-nesters are downsizing and head towards active adult communities. They would rather live in smaller homes, close to friends and entertainment.
